As one of OpenAI’s leading partners in life sciences, we have been rigorously testing the newest GPT-5 model against some of the most complex life sciences-specific workflows and analyses.
Life science experts connect dots that others miss. They have very specific, taste-driven, workflows and processes.
The best AI systems should be held to the same standards. Argon’s multi-model AI system with the integration of GPT-5 is the closest we’ve come to capturing the taste and ability of experts.
We’re excited to share our findings below about what the newest GPT-5 model means for the future of life sciences knowledge work.
Measuring commercial & clinical analysis capability
To objectively measure Argon’s capability of executing on complex life science workflows, the Argon Research team performed a blinded study of Argon pre and post GPT-5 integration and compared our system's outputs against outputs from industry experts ranging from epidemiology questions to market and company evaluation workflows.
Coverage of Life Science Question Types
Our team then produced outputs to these questions across three different AI systems:
- OpenAI's ChatGPT powered by GPT-5
- Argon AI System powered by OpenAI's o3
- Argon AI System powered by OpenAI's GPT-5
As a final step, we blinded the outputs for review by a team of industry experts.
What GPT-5 means for Life Sciences workflows
When matched with Argon’s life sciences specialized system, GPT-5 unlocks completely new capabilities at the frontier of AI capability.
Evaluation of Responses Across Life Science Questions
Overwhelmingly, Argon with GPT-5 was selected as the preferred output across the range of blinded outputs. Below is a further breakdown of expert preferences by workflow types.
Performance Across All Life Science Question Types
The future of AI in Life Sciences
It’s clear that the future of AI in the biopharma industry will be dominated by specialized AI systems.
We’re continuing to see the frontier of base model performance improve with OpenAI’s GPT-5 release, and the capture of the model performance is most notable when injected into a specialized system that leverages the models as part of a broader mosaic of AI models, data, ontologies & knowledge graphs, and so much more.
Argon with GPT-5 Reaches Closer to full Automation of Competitive Intelligence
"You can just do things"
GPT-5 has unlocked a number of use cases, and we continue to explore the frontier along with our partners of just what the Argon system is capable of.
For example, in-partnership with a top-10 large pharma company, we’ve built an end-to-end CI Agentic System in which Argon completed human-level Competitive Intelligence (CI) across a number of observed indications.
This is more than just tracking and alerts. Argon Agents armed with GPT-5 can now explore the nuanced implications, strategic impacts, and even potential counters and next steps based on shifts in the competitive landscape.
When compared against months of historical CI outputs delivered by a CI specialized consulting firm, we found that Argon not only captured 100% of updates but also outperformed CI specialists in breadth and depth of analysis and implication of specific high-impact updates.
The Spectrum of Automation
Tasks and workflows in life sciences span across a spectrum of complexity. Some very basic tasks, like synthesizing clinical trials to better understand I/E criteria, are workflows that AI systems have been able to do for some time now. But more complex tasks like indication selection, trial design, and protocol drafting have historically been out of reach.
With continued improvement of base models, we are inching down this spectrum of complexity. Taking on more and more complicated workflows such as end-to-end Competitive Intelligence.
We’re excited to continue to incorporate models from all of the top AI labs including OpenAI, Anthropic, Google Gemini and others to build the leading AI in Life Science platform at Argon.
